University of Illinois Employees Credit Union (UIECU) has been notified by Callahan & Associates that they rank #5 nationally for 12-Month Credit Card Loan Growth. UIECU grew their credit card loan portfolio from $11.9 million in outstanding balances to $17.3 million which represents a 45.55% increase. Credit card balances are now 9.5% of UIECU’s loan portfolio. No other credit union in Illinois ranked in the top twenty in the rankings by Callahan.
As the agency of record for UIECU, Concepts Unlimited designed and produced a multi-year credit card affinity branding campaign that has resulted in almost 4,000 new card accounts being opened at UIECU with over $5 million in new balances. Besides driving business,elements of this branding have been recognized as winners in national credit union marketing competition.
The affinity branding was launched through targeted direct mail to University of Illinois alumni residing across the U.S. and is now being seen through local newspaper, sports programs, radio, TV, premiums, web ads, email messages and events marketing. Two versions of a :30 TV spot featuring University of Texas football Coach Mack Brown premiers at the first UT football game on the “Godzillatron” scoreboard and on local TV stations and cable. Both spots illustrate the shared visions of UT and University Federal Credit Union capped off with the closing copy line of “University of Texas athletics and University Federal ….so close we share the same name”.
Filmed on location at the UT football stadium, the spots were dramatically shot in black in white. The images take you through “Coach Brown” touring you through a totally empty stadium building to a high level of anticipation and final reveal of the UFCU logo appearing in full color and the viewer sees who the spot is for.
These spots were designed to continue building the UFCU brand image and create even closer ties between UFCU and one of it’s largest membership groups – the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the University of Texas at Austin.
The spot buy includes the Coach Brown show, select sports sponsorships and airing four times during each UT home game on the football stadium scoreboard.

Over 580 entries competed for these prestigious awards in two rounds of judging by marketing professionals from around the U.S. and Canada.
